Saturday Doubles @ Pullen Park

Pullen Park (map)

Selected By: "Ab" Abayomi

Who is welcome?
Men and Women: 2.5 and above
2.5: Modest consistency. This player is learning to judge where the ball is going, although court coverage is weak. Can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.

Timeline:
9:00 Say hello, pay $3 fee and warmup on any open court (new balls provided)
9:10 I'll huddle everyone together, do introductions and get things started
11:00 Tennis Ends

Where are the courts?
From off of Ashe avenue, take the Pullen Park entrance (Adaba dr) all the way to the end of the road. The tennis courts are on the hill you see in front of you on your left. Park and take the walkway to the courts.

What happens to the money I pay?
Your $3 event fee goes towards new balls, court reservations, liability insurance, and meetup.com website fees.

How does the waiting list work?
Members on the waiting list receive an email whenever a Yes spot opens up. Whoever responds first gets in. This format is to cut down on the number of people that unknowingly get moved off the waiting list then don't show up.

What is your RSVP policy?
*If you sign up, you must show up.
*3 No-Shows in 4 months - banned for a month
*5 no-shows in 5 months - your membership is revoked
*Rain or huge chance of rain - no-shows are excused
*If your plans change, please update your RSVP to 'no' ASAP. The earlier you open a spot, the better chance others have of RSVPing and guaranteeing full attendance.

USTA Comment 24.5: Does a player lose a point if the ball hits
his racket twice during one swing? No. Only when there is a definite
and deliberate "second push" by the player does the shot become
illegal. "Deliberately" is the key word in this rule. Two hits occurring
during a single continuous swing are not deemed a double hit.

Thanks Scott for the links. Very helpful to have clear set of rules in the mind, I always was slightly confused about this rule but your links definitely helped me. Thanks. OTOH great games and I did enjoy my time playing with everyone.

Everyone seemed to be happy with competitive games. Quite a few people have shown marked improvement in their skills.

Although hot, it was great to get out and play doubles with B, Lisa, and W.C. I appreciate the humility shown by Gus, Peter, Angela, and Justin in playing down to my level. Gus and Peter laid out some pretty good serves here and again. Special thanks to Ab for bringing us together for the event and letting us meet his son!

http://www.... KAUFMAN: A player is permitted only one swing at the ball. Any intentional second swing is not permitted. Sometimes, during the stroke the ball may hit the strings/racket two times. If the player did this in one motion and there is no attempt at an intentional second hit, then that is a legal shot. This rule was changed in the 1970s from no double hits, whether intentional or not, to the above procedure.
